Learn how to set up and use layout grids, columns, and rows in Figma to create structured, consistent, and responsive designs. Grids are essential for maintaining alignment and spacing across your projects.
First, select the frame you want to apply a grid to. You can't add a layout grid without selecting a frame first.
In the right-hand Design panel, find the Layout Grid section and click the + icon. Figma will add a default 10px grid.
Click the grid icon (nine dots) next to 'Grid' to open the Layout grid settings panel.
In the settings dropdown, change the grid type from Grid to Columns.
Adjust the settings to fit your design. Set the Count (e.g., 12), Margin (space on the sides), and Gutter (space between columns).
Pro Tips for Mastering Figma Grids
Quickly show or hide all layout grids on a page by pressing ^ + G on Mac or Ctrl + Shift + 4 on Windows.
Save your grid settings as a style by clicking the four-dot 'Style' icon in the Layout Grid section. This allows you to reuse the same grid across multiple frames.
You can add more than one grid to a single frame. Click the + icon again to add rows, a pixel grid, or even another set of columns.
Objects will automatically snap to your grid columns and rows, helping you maintain perfect alignment as you design.
