Learn how to professionally wrap text around images in your Microsoft Word documents to create visually appealing and well-structured layouts.
First, insert an image into your document by going to the Insert tab and clicking Pictures. Once the image is in your document, click on it to select it.
When you select the image, a small Layout Options icon will appear next to its top-right corner. Click this icon to open the text wrapping menu.
In the Layout Options menu, you'll see several icons representing different wrapping styles. Common options include Square, Tight, and Top and Bottom. Hover over each one to see a live preview.
Click on the desired wrapping style to apply it. The text in your document will immediately reflow around the image according to the style you selected.
After applying a wrap style, you can click and drag the image to move it anywhere on the page. The text will dynamically adjust to its new position.
Pro Tips for Text Wrapping
The Tight wrapping option is perfect for images with transparent backgrounds (like PNGs), as it follows the contours of the actual object rather than its rectangular frame.
For more control, right-click the image, select Wrap Text > More Layout Options.... Here you can specify the exact distance between the text and the image on all sides.
In the Layout Options menu, select 'Fix position on page' to anchor the image. This prevents it from moving as you add or delete text around it.
For ultimate precision, go to the Picture Format tab, click Wrap Text > Edit Wrap Points. You can drag the black handles to customize the wrapping boundary line.
