Learn the essential steps to add, customize, and animate text titles in your DaVinci Resolve projects to enhance your videos and convey information effectively.
Navigate to the Edit page. In the top-left corner of the screen, make sure the Effects panel is open. If it's not visible, click the 'Effects' button.
Inside the Effects panel, look for the Toolbox section. Expand it and then click on Titles to reveal a list of available text presets.
Choose a title type (e.g., 'Text+' for more control or a basic 'Text'). Click and drag your chosen title from the Effects panel onto a video track in your timeline, placing it above your video clip.
Select the title clip in the timeline. Open the Inspector panel in the top-right corner. Here you can change the font, size, color, content, and other properties of your text.
In the timeline, you can click and drag the title clip to change its position. To change how long it appears on screen, drag the edges of the clip to extend or shorten its duration.
Tips for Professional-Looking Titles
The Text+ title is a Fusion-based tool that offers advanced options like extrusion (3D text), custom shading, and complex animations directly in the Inspector.
After customizing a title in the Inspector, you can save it as a preset. Right-click the title in the timeline, choose Create Title Preset, and reuse your custom style in any project.
Go to View > Safe Area > On in the viewer to ensure your titles are placed within the viewable area for all screen types, preventing them from being cut off.
Use keyframes in the Inspector to animate properties like position, size, and opacity. Click the diamond icon next to a setting to start animating it over time.
